Senator Regola hails tax relief study
HB 377 directs review of alternate breaks State Senator Bob Regola (R-39) hailed the passage of legislation mandating a study of alternative forms of tax forgiveness for low-income working Pennsylvanians. The provision was included as part of the Senate-passed version of House Bill 377, the tax code bill passed as part of the Fiscal Year 2008-09 Budget. “This is an important step forward,” Senator Regola said. “Working families are being crushed by skyrocketing fuel costs and higher food prices. I applaud this effort to study ways to provide assistance to those families. I sincerely hope that it provides recommendations that we can act upon quickly to help low-income families.” HB 377 directs the Joint State Government Commission to conduct a comprehensive study to determine whether alternative forms of personal income tax forgiveness would be more beneficial to low-income Pennsylvanians. Senator Regola is also the prime sponsor of Senate Bill 1386 which would increase the eligibility limits for special tax forgiveness for low-income Pennsylvanians. For a family of four, the bill would increase eligibility limits from $32,000 to $37,000 over a three year period. SB 1386 awaits action in the House Finance Committee. ### Contact: Nathan Silcox (717) 787-6063 |
