Regola’s Oath of Office Bill Sent to Governor one commonwealth, one oath Legislation sponsored by State Senator Bob Regola (R-39) that would establish a uniform oath of office for municipal officials was passed by the General Assembly this past week and sent to the Governor for final approval. Under Senate Bill 1332, the oath would be: I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, obey and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of this Commonwealth and that I will discharge the duties of my office with fidelity. “This is the same oath in the Constitution for members of the General Assembly,” said Sen. Regola. “Currently, the various local government codes -- for counties, cities, boroughs, and townships -- contain different sets of oaths. This legislation would provide a straightforward oath that is consistent for all municipal officials in the Commonwealth.” The County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities, the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors and the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs are supportive of the legislation. ### Contact: Nathan Silcox (717) 787-6063 |
