Senate Journals Dating Back to 1993 Now Online

Expansion continues effort to make Legislature more accountable

As part of the continuing efforts to make the legislature more accountable to the public, citizens can now access Senate Journals dating back to 1993 at www.pasen.gov, according to Senator Bob Regola (R-39), a leader in the efforts to reform state government.

Senate Legislative Journals -- from 2005 to the present -- have been available online since January 2007, when the Senate adopted a series of new rules designed to make the legislative process easier to follow.  That service was recently expanded with the inclusion of Legislative Journals from 1993 to 2004, according to Senator Regola.

The Legislative Journal is a comprehensive daily record of Senate Session activities.

 “This is a great service for our constituents, who can now review the day-to-day activities of the Senate over the past 15 years,” said Sen. Regola.  “This provides quicker, easier access to legislative information, in addition to contributing to a more open state government.”

Sen. Regola has taken a strong leadership stance in the effort to enact government reform as he is the prime sponsor of the Taxpayer Protection Act -- which would set limits on state spending -- as well as a Constitutional Amendment to end “lame duck” voting sessions.

During the current legislative session, the Senate has added a great deal of information to the Senate's official web site, including:

  • A live video feed of all Senate sessions;
  • Roll call votes from the Senate floor;
  • Votes to report bills and resolutions out of Senate committees; and
  • The text of all amendments offered on the Senate floor.

The Senate's Legislative Journals from years prior to 1993, dating as far back as 1802, will continue to be available in the Senate Library.
